    Our Local Governing Body

The Local Governing Body (LGB) plays an important role in supporting and challenging the leadership of Church Stretton School to ensure that every student has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

As part of TrustEd Schools, our governors work closely with the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and Trust Board to support the school's strategic direction and continued improvement. Governors bring a wide range of skills, knowledge and experience to their roles, providing an independent perspective and helping to ensure that decisions are made in the best interests of our students and the wider school community.

Our governors are committed to upholding the school's core values of Belonging, Ambition and Resilience, helping to create an environment where students feel safe, supported and challenged to achieve their very best.

    The Role of Our Governors

The Local Governing Body has three core responsibilities, exercised within the Trust's Scheme of Delegation:

    • Strategic leadership: Supporting the school's vision, ethos and strategic priorities, ensuring that these remain ambitious and focused on improving outcomes for all students.

    • Support and challenge: Holding school leaders to account for the quality of education, student achievement, personal development and wellbeing.

    • Financial oversight: Monitoring the effective use of resources and ensuring that decisions support the school's priorities and provide value for money.

Governors act as critical friends, offering both constructive challenge and support to school leaders. Their role is strategic rather than operational, helping to ensure that the school continues to develop and improve while maintaining high expectations for all students.

    How Our Governors Work

Our Local Governing Body meets regularly throughout the academic year to review school performance, monitor improvement priorities and discuss key aspects of school life.

Governors also develop their understanding of the school through visits, discussions with staff and school leaders, and engagement with the wider school community.

Individual governors may take on specific responsibilities, known as link governor roles, allowing them to develop a deeper understanding of particular areas such as safeguarding, SEND, curriculum and educational outcomes. These roles help governors provide informed support and challenge and contribute to the school's ongoing improvement.

The Local Governing Body works within the governance arrangements established by TrustEd Schools, with the Trust Board retaining overall accountability for the schools within the Trust.

    Our Commitment

Our governors are volunteers who generously give their time and expertise to support the school. They are committed to working collaboratively with school leaders, staff, parents and the wider community to ensure that Church Stretton School provides a high-quality, inclusive and ambitious education for every student.

We hope this page provides a useful introduction to the work of our governors and the important contribution they make to the life and success of our school.

The Local Governing Body is made up of a variety of community, parent and staff governors.
