The MFL department at Church Stretton School comprises of one full-time Head of Department and two part-time teaching staff. Each member of staff has their own well-resourced, dedicated classroom with the latest generation touch-screen board. The department also has its own office space.

We have consistently had excellent results in GCSE French for many years and are keen to build on this success, recruiting higher numbers of students into GCSE French and introducing Spanish into our KS3 MFL curriculum from September 2023.

We have run a successful, long-established Year 7 French trip to Boulogne in July for over twenty years and are launching a KS3 Spanish trip to Andalucia, Spain from July 2024.

Year 9 French students visited Paris in February 2024 and our Year 11 GCSE French students enjoyed a very successful visit to Normandy in March 2023.

In November 2023 we also ran a popular visit to a Tapas restaurant in Shrewsbury with our Year 11 GCSE Spanish students who relished the opportunity to speak Spanish and order a meal in an authentic Spanish setting.

We are keen to expand on our offer of extra-curricular and enrichment activities in MFL and are currently exploring the possibility of forging links with a secondary school in Argentina.
