Head's Welcome
Welcome to our website.
Welcome to our website and a very warm welcome from myself, Steve Lunt, the newly appointed Headteacher at Church Stretton School. I took up the post after Easter having previously been a Head in Oxford.
I feel privileged to have been offered the opportunity to lead the school at this exciting time. I have been made to feel very welcome by parents, students and staff and have been immediately impressed with the warmth of relationships and the focus on quality that makes the school distinctive. Church Stretton is a thriving school and I am very much looking forward to working with the school with a view to it becoming one of the finest in the country.
An introduction to the school
This is a thriving, successful, comprehensive school, surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of the south Shropshire hills. By far the greatest assets are the students and staff that make up the community. Great emphasis is placed on the care that is given to the young people; we strive to know them as individuals and to recognise their personal strengths and needs. We aim to ensure that every learner has the opportunity to make the most of their abilities; that everyone has the chance to shine. Academic achievement is celebrated alongside concerts, productions, exhibitions, sporting and art successes. As a school we are determined to get the best from every one of our students. We aim for excellence.
Examination and assessment results bear testament to the efforts of all but it is recognised that results are just one aspect of school life. There is an exciting curriculum and a very rich programme of extra-curricular activities. OFSTED describe the range of clubs, trips and visits as excellent. We constantly look for opportunities to work with and within the local community. Sports and the Arts thrive.
Everyone works in partnership; with each other, with the community, with other agencies. The Parents and Friends Association and the School Governors work tirelessly in support of the school. Their efforts enrich the experience we offer to all our learners. The school could not achieve its success without them. Our Technology College status is important to us. It benefits our students enormously and means that we can work even more closely with our partner schools and the wider community.
This is an open school; we welcome visitors. If you would like to see us in action or to find out more please do not hesitate to get in touch. Our brochure is available on this site or by clicking here [PDF, 1.3 Mb, opens in a new window]. If you are moving into the area and looking for school places for your children then come for a tour. Our students love showing people around! Those who do will discover a friendly, caring, committed school, a school with a definite focus on the individual and on achieving the highest standards of teaching and learning. A school that is proud to sum up its aims in three key words:
Care Excellence Partnership
With all best wishes
