Appendix I - School Uniform

SCHOOL UNIFORM SHOULD BE WORN ON ALL OCCASIONS.

We believe that most parents are in favour of school uniform because it lays down clear and practical guidance on clothing.

We value highly the support of parents over the issue of uniform. Our uniform was designed with the help of parents and students. It is basic, simple, smart and easily available.

Please note the following:
1. Students should arrive at and leave from the school in correct uniform.
2. All items of clothing should be marked with the owner's name.

We make use of TRUTEX LTD, via their School Link programme, to supply our uniform. All uniform items can be purchased from Trutex via their uniform catalogue. Copies are available from the school office. An added advantage of this service is that all items are delivered directly to your home.

We prefer parents to purchase uniform from Trutex to ensure that standards are maintained throughout the school. We believe their range, and especially their "best value" items, provide excellent value for money. As a bonus we receive a donation of 10% from all sales for the school fund.

More details of the service are given in the catalogue. Page 2 lists items approved for uniform at Church Stretton School. Items carrying the school logo are only available from Trutex.

BOYS' AND GIRLS' UNIFORM

1. Skirt/trousers should be grey or black and of a plain 'uniform' type. Excesses of fashion detract from the notion of a uniform and are therefore unacceptable. No jeans, tight fitting fabric, baggy leg pockets or military styles, etc.
2. Skirts should be worn not more than 5 inches or 12 cm above the centre of the knee cap and no longer than mid calf. No slits or wrap around skirts.
3. Shirts should be sky or navy blue polo shirts with the Church Stretton School logo. No coloured or patterned T shirts should be worn under a shirt.
4. Crew necked sweatshirt - navy blue with the school logo, no cardigans or round neck sweaters.
5. Tights - black or natural flesh coloured, not patterned. Socks - black, grey or white.
6. Shoes - black (not brown), sensible, low heeled. Canvas, stiletto heeled and sling-back shoes are not permitted. No trainers other than for sports activities.

HAIR AND MAKEUP

All students are asked to wear their hair off the face in practical activities, for example Design, Science, Physical Education or whenever asked to do so for safety reasons. Hair should be tied back with a simple band or slide. No other head attire is acceptable other than that required for religious reasons. If hair colour is used it must be a natural shade.

Facial hair - boys should be clean shaven unless on religious grounds, as agreed with parents.

No obvious make-up or nail polish should be worn.

JEWELLERY

In the interests of safety and loss NO JEWELLERY SHOULD BE WORN other than:
i) Stud earrings (no more than one per ear). Plasters will be needed to cover stud earrings which are newly fitted and can not be removed.
ii) Wrist watches

NB: In the interests of Health & Safety NO NOSE STUDS OR OTHER VISIBLE BODY PIERCINGS ARE ACCEPTABLE.

If watches/stud earrings are removed for lessons they should be handed to the teacher in charge. We cannot be responsible for items which are not handed in to a member of staff for safe keeping. This is especially true for PE lessons when all valuable items/money must be handed in to the teacher in charge.

BOYS AND GIRLS PE UNIFORM

Outdoor, Autumn and Spring Terms:
Plain navy shorts, white polo shirt with school logo, navy blue rugby shirt with school logo, navy blue football socks, football boots and training shoes (non marking soles).

Summer Term and Indoor all year:

Outdoor Wear:
A jogging suit or tracksuit, preferably navy, can be worn in cold weather but is not compulsory. A lightweight waterproof jacket is allowed.

Towels/Wash Kit
A clean towel and wash kit is useful for every PE lesson although showering is not compulsory.
